Featured Artist of the week : Kasey Taylor - In particular, lovers of the tribal house and deep to hard progressive sound fondly remember his time spent rocking Melbourne’s Mansion club. During Kasey’s stint there, the club played host to most of the worlds leading DJ’s with the likes of Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and our very own Anthony Pappa to name a few, and it was also voted one of the best clubs in the world by the UK’s Ministry Magazine. He plays at all the major clubbing events in his hometown of Melbourne past and present including brand name tours like Northern Exposure, Renaissance, Global Underground and Slinky. As well as Melbourne’s own brand names Two Tribes, (held on the F1 grand Prix weekend in March each year), and Summadayze every new years day which pulls crowds around 25,000 people every year.
From the mid 1990’s Kasey was exploring production. His first experience in the studio was with Quench, their first single released was titled “Feel My Love” in 1995 and it was licensed to UK based label Faze 2. He then moved on after that single to form Our House in partnership with Melbourne DJ Sean Quinn. The duo was signed to Dancenet/MDS here in Australia and to Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label in the UK. They came to Paul’s attention after he heard their debut single “Floorspace” at a party in Melbourne they played at together, which also featured Pete Tong on the bill. He snapped the track up on the spot and the success of “Floorspace” led to several remixing options including Virus – “Moon” and Juno Reactor – “Jungle High” for Perfecto, and other high profile labels, with their latest remix on the new Hamish single titled “Forever & Never” being the most recent one. They’ve also just completed recording an album which is due for release around August 2003 and their current single out now is titled Twilight / Fire & Ice. The next single titled Krakatoa, is due for release soon with the boys exploring some breaks on this release.
Kasey’s solo work started in early 1997 with a remix on “Chrome” by Chrome (Licensed to Platipus) and “Summer Breeze” by the Free Radicals, both were locally produced and gained a lot of attention offshore. It was later on in 97 that he decided to set up his own label, Vapour Recordings, and he’s managed to land some exciting artists on the roster such as Ocean Wave, Quest (Luke Chable), Nu Breed and Highland to name a few. The label now has its 24th release currently out and a lot more in the pipeline with some exciting releases coming in the near future. Kasey’s Ocean Wave has had tracks signed to Rhythm Syndicate in the UK, (Home to Breeder) with the singles Velvet and Clearwater being released in the year 2000. You’ll also find his product has featured on most major compilations like Global Underground, Renaissance etc and as Ocean Wave, he has remixed for many high profile labels like Bedrock, Rhythm Syndicate, Forged, Quad Communications, Fade and a lot more. .
The Katai project he records under (another one of his own), is for the more deep and driving tunes he creates, and under Blakstone he records with Andy Jarrod. Andy is one of the UK’s rising talents and is the man behind 3 Beat label management in the UK, the company that’s looks after Vapours releases for the UK/Europe.
So as you can see, Kasey is at the forefront of the Australian dance music scene. He’s DJ’ing is very much in demand now with regular gigs in Melbourne, Interstate and internationally, with most gigs recently being abroad in countries like the UK, US, Holland, Portugal, Turkey, Greece and most of Asia (See below for previous gig listings). He co-presented a radio show in Melbourne on Kiss FM with Our House production partner Sean Quinn when the station was broadcasting test transmissions, and has also done two 1-hour mixes for John Digweed’s Kiss 100 radio show, along with two DJ slots at his Bedrock night in London.
